About Fr. Lin
The Rev. Richard Lindsley Walton was baptized, confirmed and raised at the Falls Church Episcopal Church of Virginia. While pursuing theological studies at Duke Divinity School Fr. Lin met his wife, now the Rev. Nancy Dixon Walton, who is a United Methodist minister. Both concentrated in rural church ministry.
After completing studies at Virginia Seminary Fr. Lin ws ordained to the priesthood in June of 2000 at St. Peter's Church in Salisbury, Maryland, where he served as Assistant Rector. Three years later, he and his young family were called as Episcopal missionaries to serve in the Diocese of Belize where Fr, Lin became the Interim Director of the Anglican Theological Institute and was a lecturer in Ethics at the University of Belize. After four years in Belize, Fr. Lin and his growing family relocated to Tallahassee, Florida, where Nancy was appointed as the Senior Pastor of Gray Memorial United Methodist Church. During the four years in Tallahassee Fr. Lin served as an Assisting Priest at the Episcopal Church of the Advent and assumed a primary role in the home.
Fr. Lin and Nancy have two lovely children, Sophia. age 12, and Jeremy, age 8. In coming to Western North Carolina Sophie has enjoyed horseback riding and learning to play the guitar; while Jeremy has enjoyed mountain biking, still anxiously awaiting his first snowboarding lesson. Nancy has enjoyed tending to a vegetable garden as she did growing up in Apopka, Florida, in addition to learning to play the hammered dulcimer. Believing that there is something quite magical about the Blue Ridge Parkway, Fr. Lin, Nancy, Sophie and Jeremy - as well as their two dogs and, frequently, their two cats - enjoy family hikes in and around their home to nearby waterfalls, bear caves and coyote trails. They have even been known to venture out for "midnight pajama walks."
